About Me

Overview

Sowmya R is an India-admitted advocate who serves as Of Counsel for the India practice of Law Offices of SRIS, P.C. Enrolled with the State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, she practices in the courts of India with a corporate, real-estate, and transactional focus, complemented by regulatory litigation experience.

Practice

Sowmya practices in corporate and commercial matters, including company, joint-venture, and infrastructure agreements and advisory work for micro, small, and medium enterprises. She has a particular concentration in real estate and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, handling both transactional matters and disputes, including RERA regulatory litigation — she argued a Public Interest Litigation before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur concerning the State’s RERA Rules. She drafts and reviews contracts and intellectual-property agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, memoranda of understanding, licensing, and copyright matters, and conducts due diligence on title, ownership, and mortgage for high-value transactions.

Courts and reach

Sowmya’s home practice is in Madhya Pradesh and the surrounding region, and her enrollment permits her to appear before courts across India under the Advocates Act, 1961. Her corporate, RERA, contract, and due-diligence work is largely advisory and document-driven and is handled on a pan-India basis. She works in Hindi and English.

Education

Sowmya holds an LL.M. in Corporate and Intellectual Property Laws (Gold Medalist) from Jagran Lakecity University and a BBA, LL.B. (Hons.) with a corporate-law concentration from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun. She also holds a Certificate in Cloud Computing Law and Transactions from Queen Mary University of London.

Within the firm’s cross-border work, Sowmya leads on Indian-law matters in her practice areas and serves as an India liaison, coordinating Indian-law input alongside the firm’s U.S.-licensed attorneys, who lead all U.S.-law matters.

Disclosure: Licensed in India (State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh). Not admitted in any U.S. state bar. Practice with Law Offices of SRIS, P.C. is limited to matters of Indian law and to serving as a liaison for international clients with U.S.-licensed attorneys at the firm.
